From Nana to The Fashion Freak Show.
Jean Paul Gaultier is a famous couturier who is called the Fashion’s wild child. Thanks to his grandmother, he develops a passion for fashion and more precisely the underwear. He finds the inspiration in Yves Saint Laurent who gives him the energy to surpass himself, and teaches Haute Couture codes. At this age of 18, he began his career in the Maison Pierre Cardin and became his “indirect” successor.

His first muse was Nana, his teddy bear on which he made the iconic prototype conical bra. He has used the twin-peaked corset for Madonna in her 1990 Blond Ambition tour, opposite of all the usual standard bras for that time. This creation became the new power of the feminine beauty.
In 1997, the défilé “Gaultier Paris” presents his first Haute Couture pieces and starts to change radically the cultural codes as well as its target: different women, of all styles and ages.
He continues his change with the men's skirt, a window-dressing. Indeed, it is in fact a wide-leg pants. In his point of view, it was a way of bringing men and women back to equality. The Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture shows have the irreverent and facetious character that has made his brand so successful.

He also creates his own show within the Folies Bergère presenting his own universe: The
Fashion Freak Show. It is the craziest, the freakiest, the sexiest, the most VIP event. Exclusive Haute Couture pieces are presented and make it unique.
Through his bestsellers, he has revolutionized the Haute Couture and became, as he said, a protest. Nowadays, the designer is inspired by new cultures such as Japan and continues to dazzle the world of Haute Couture.
