Who are the "Haute Couture" houses?

Each year, the list of Haute Couture members is communicated by the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. It represents the sesame in order to be able to present fashion shows at the Paris Fashion Week. However, it is important to note that 3 types of members exist within this name.

Today, fifteen houses hold this prestigious Haute Couture appellation. Historical members such as Chanel, Christian Dior, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Alexandre Vauthier, Adeline André and Maison Martin Margiela are qualified as permanent members.

It should also be borne in mind that in addition to these permanent members, there are also corresponding but also invited members. Corresponding members come from foreign countries such as Giorgio Armani, Valentino, Eli Saad and Martin Margiela.

And finally, every year, some houses temporarily obtain this precious label by being invited members. This status remains transitional and at each season these houses must be unanimously validated by all the permanent houses. On the other hand, the invited members do not hold the authorization to use the famous legally protected "Haute Couture" appellation, which is why they inherit the name "Couture". Being a guest member is a first step for houses that wish to become future permanent members.

This year, Iris Van Herpen dazzled the fashion of Week of Paris with the presentation of its 2019-2020 autumn-winter Couture collection. In a hypnotic setting, the house revealed creations worthy of works of art. The creations were unveiled with a breathtaking staging thanks to mechanical and physical prowess.

The highlight of the show remains the most emblematic piece, the final dress of the show. A dress composed of rotating wings made of steel, aluminium and feathers. The show was on track thanks to the winds that caressed each of the feathers in this work.

Between blurred lines, rounded shapes, precious materials and unique know-how, the collection reflected its name: Hypnosis. Spectacular and never seen before, Iris Van Herpen transported us!
